On Fitness

With regards to the Fitness industry, no one has really defined what the word "fitness" means.  There are ten general skills to associated with Fitness; Cardiovascular endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy.  For us, the more competent you are with each of these skills, the fitter you are.  Our regimen is built around improving these skills through practice in our workouts for each individual.  We believe that Fitness done right should be able to protect everyone from the ravages of sickness and bad health.  We are interested in improving everyone's well being through various protocols for each individual.  Fitness is being able to perform any given task well no matter what the challenge is.  Which means we want to be able to use your Fitness to excel at everything you do outside the gym, whether it be competing in sports or playing with your children without losing your breath.

On Functional Movement

What do you do on an average day?  Waking up in bed, standing from a seated position, placing bags overhead, pulling and pushing doors, picking up groceries, WALKING, these are all functional movements.  These movements are seen in everyday life.  And how do we strengthen our bodies to mimic those activities, performing functional exercises; squatting, jumping, push ups, pull ups, deadlifts etc.  For example, the proper way to pick up groceries from the supermarket is to use your legs and not to round your back.  In the On Ramp introduction course, we will teach you the basic movements we perform in our WOD (Workout of the Day).  To ensure safety, our classes are kept small, twelve, so each student gets the right attention!

On CrossFit

CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program encompassing nutrition, metabolic conditioning, gymnastics and weightlifting.  On the CrossFit website, our regimen are workouts that include constantly varied, functional movements performed at high intensity in a community based environment which promotes health and fitness. CrossFit is designed to be universally scalable which means anybody that has a committed desire for fitness will be able to take advantage of the program regardless of experience.

On Our Programming

We program first and foremost for general fitness and wellness.  We understand that the majority of the public just want to get or stay in shape that breaks the mold of traditional gym routines.  Everyday will be a different workout with an end goal every 4-8 weeks.  We provide two different streams of programming, one for general fitness and the other for performance.  The first strives on mastering the basics and we use that to generate the intensity in our daily WODs.  The second is based on individual goals and wanting more from the program, building from the foundational movements that needs to be mastered before even considering this stream of WODs.
